After a few months hiatus while I took a pottery class I am back volunteering at the Humane Society of Utah!
I really enjoy doing it. I get to snuggle with some kitties, get some great practice taking photos and it's all for a good cause. Because the kitties are so stressed when they go through the intake process the pictures of them are usually pretty terrible. When I go in they have settled in and are more calm. The key is to get a picture that gets a little of the cats' personality. I do this by focusing on the face and trying to capture their expressions.
The hard part is not bringing a cat (or two!) home with me each week. :)

I think this picture is very poignant. This is Panther. He's 2 years old. He was watching some people walk by as I took the picture. To me it looks like he's thinking about how many people walk by and wondering when they will finally stop for him.
This is Muffin. He's a 1 1/2 year old long haired kitty. He was super sweet and, as you can see, very photogenic. A very beautiful and sweet cat!
This pretty girl is Sophia, a 2 year old tortie/tabby. Another really sweet kitty, she was very interested in my feather toy!
If you're looking to add a kitty to your family the Humane Society always has a LOT of kitties looking for a home. Some of them have been there for a really long time. Go check them out, you may just find your new best kitty friend!
